My last outdoors experience with Vincent wasn’t partying and running in the shadows with a bunch of raucous friends. It was a nice, quiet stroll around Silver Lake in Big Cottonwood Canyon with his precious children, Lorenzo and Edilea.
I hadn’t seen Lorenzo since he was a baby. Now he looked like a five-year-old even though he was only three. This was my second meeting of Edilea, and she was much more receptive to me, letting me hold her and burying her head into my shoulder coyly as I told her how cute she was. Lorenzo was on the lookout for ducks, fish, and beavers. Edilea was content to suck on SunChips while everyone who walked by her commented on how adorable she was.
Vince had recently seen a video of an impressive beaver dam and its owner darting through the water on Instagram and really wanted to find it. Alas, we never did.
Watching Vince manage his two little angels with such grace, patience, and love was the most memorable part of that day. The joy he exuded as he tended to each of them was palpable. It was the first time I got to see him in full father mode. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised at his skill. Best friend, best father.
We finished off the day with burgers and fries from Cotton Bottom at the house, bringing one for Nadia.
