I met Vince because he was my little brother Jeff’s roommate and dear friend. So I only knew Vince from afar, and only had the rare opportunity of sharing his light whenever Alex threw a rager at his house. And what drew me to Vince was his calm maturity in the middle of a party like that. I’m quite a bit older than these “boys” and would often feel a little awkward and out of place attending parties with my little brother’s crowd, but Vince would stand there and talk to me as though he were right there with me in my awkwardness. We discovered right away we both had a love for books. Once he found out I had a Masters in English Literature, our conversation was formed, cemented, and lasted for hours. He never seemed bored or made me feel like he was obliged to talk me. I was always struck by his intelligence and maturity, for someone so young. Then he played a very special part in our family’s history by marrying my brother and his wife, Brandy. He was the perfect person for it—a quiet, loving, and humorous soul that took this responsibility seriously, but delivered it with charm and warmth.
To my brother Jeff, to Alex and all of his friends, to his parents, to Nadia, and his sweet children…I mourn with you over this unimaginable loss. The world is definitely less without him. I hope the memories of him will sustain you in those moments when your grief feels unbearable.
